On April 19, 1989, at around 9PM, a young woman jogging alone in Central Park was brutally attacked, beaten, raped, and left for dead. She wasn't found until hours later, where she was taken to the emergency room, very close to death (with a body temp of 85 degrees) comatose, and unrecognizable. She is identified by friends through a unique ring. The doctors didn't give her much hope in surviving. Her family, friends and strangers prayed for her survival. This is her story, in her own words. She does not remember the attack and for the writing of this book, she relies on doctors notes, family memories, and friends recollections of her time in coma. She takes us through her recovery, going back to work, running a marathon (in 4 hours 30 minutes and one second!) and meeting the man who would become her husband. The rape changed her, but for the better.”
