• Harper Blaine: Private investigator who can see, touch, and walk into the Grey after a violent attack that leaves her dead for two minutes. She now has to come to grips with her new abilities before the Grey, or something in it, can kill her.
• Mara Danziger: Irish professor of geology at the University of Washington and witch. Married to Ben Danziger, and mother of Brian. She can also see the Grey and acts as Harper's guide and mentor to dealing with the Grey.
• Ben Danziger: Professor of languages and linguistics at the University of Washington. Married to Mara Danziger, father of Brian. Theoretician when it comes to the Grey as he cannot himself see it, but still an expert in the paranormal.
• Quinton: Mysterious electronics and computer expert who drifts around. Often found at the library.
• Albert: Resident ghost at the Danziger's house.
• William "Will" Novak: Auctioneer working for McCain Antiques and Auctions.
• Cameron Shadley: Missing son of Colleen Shadley. Student at the University of Washington. Once found, hires Harper to help him deal with the problem that made him disappear in the first place.
• Grigori Sergeyev: Strange client of Harper's who wants his missing organ found.
• Edward Kammerling: Head vampire of Seattle
• Carlos: Vampire and rival of Edward.
• Sarah Shadley: Sister of Cameron Shadley.
• Michael "Mikey" Novak: Younger brother of Will. Also works for McCain Antiques and Auctions.
• Alice: Vampire and rival of Edward.
• Ann Ingstrom: Widow of Chet Ingstrom, owner Ingstrom Shipwrights. Her husband was a former owner of Sergeyev's organ.
• Brandon: Owner of McCain Antiques and Auctions.
• Colleen Shadley: Hires Harper to find her missing son, Cameron Shadley.
• Mrs. Fell: Disgruntled bidder at auction.
• Steve: Bouncer at Dominic's.
• Gwen: Vampire. Made by Edward.
• Richard "RC" Calvin: Roommate of Cameron Shadley.
• Brian Danziger: Ben and Mara Danziger's infant son.
• Lenore Fabrette: Sister of the late Philip Stakis. Her brother was a former owner of Sergeyev's organ.
• Dr. Skelleher: Harper's doctor in the hospital. Refers Harper to the Danzigers after she begins to experience the Grey.
• Wygan: Vampire and late-night DJ of Radio Freeform.
