“These people still make the dumbest decisions. All of them. What the heck is with the people in this town? *SPOILERS* Poppy AND her husband are both cheating on each other. Bubba's cheating on his wife. Roe's dad's cheating on his 2nd wife and that wife's cheating on him too. Poppy's neighbor's cheating on his wife. And those are just the ones I can readily bring to mind. It's no wonder Roe over-reacts to Robin flirting with a girl at the library! And did anyone, for an instant, think the series would end without Roe being pregnant? I mean, really! ”

She has a lot of imagination and she gives her characters a lot of personality, which has been demonstrated in her Southern Vampire Mysteries series, yet this book, this SERIES, was written very poorly. I read these books after having read her Sookie Stackhouse books anticipating the same level of writing. I, by all means, was not looking for the Stackhouse books all over again. These books were no where near the level of Harris's most popular series and with good reason. They are sloppily written with ridiculous lapses in time and errors with sequence of events. In one book it says that there is a fifteen year difference between the main character and her love interest, and in the next book that age difference becomes thirteen. That is just one of the minor mistakes. The last books seems like it was slapped together quickly because she wanted to get on with the Sookie Stackhouse books, which I understand, but do not find as an excuse. I was not looking for a happy ending, however I was looking for a conclusive one, there are too many loose ends, too many characters that are either explained to much or too little. On top of that there are so many possible love interests that are either focused on too much or not delved into enough, and then they do not come up at all as if they have disappeared off the face of the planet. The plots are good, but the writing could have been better. I probably would have been less harsh if I had not read her other books- BUT I HAVE!! So it seems impossible for me to disregard the complete differences in the level of writing. It's amazing to me how Harris was producing the gold of Dead Until Dark during the same time she was concluding this series because they are so far apart in writing style. The series had the capacity to be so much better and I was very disappointed with its turnout. It's still an interesting read, but I would suggest to not having high hopes for it because one will certainly have a shock. However, I do highly recommend The Southern Vampire Mysteries, which made Charlaine Harris one of my favorite authors.”

I love these books, they are just right for that lazy weekend when you need to escape from the world you live in and read a mystery that doesn't tax your brain until you want to scream, but is involved enough it keeps you reading all the way to the end. In this one Aurora has been ask to be a member of the Uppity Women Book Club. Poppy, Roe's stepsister-in-law has made her way up the waiting list and then dies on the day she's suppose to be inducted. The rumors abound about infidelity and other things. To complicate matters Aurora's half brother shows up at her door, he has run away from home. Aurora's lover, Robin is out of town doing one of his many book signings, he is a famous author. This book is filled with family problems, animal problems and one of the biggest personal matters a woman can face in her lifetime. ”

She walks into a murder scene, this complicates everything. She has to strugle with her healing broken heart, and her step familiy's as well. She has doubts about her relationship when she discovers how comon cheating is. Her almost unknown teenage brother is with her becuase of some complications at his home. He has some growing/life pains to work through. Aurora is a character that feels very "real" and her story has a good ending in this book. I smiled and cryed with her, I really jsut like her. This could be the end of her story or it could continue. I hope there are more books to come.”

I am happy with the way this one ended with the only exception being Phillip an Sally. There stories don't seem to wrap up as I had hoped they would. Things seem to still be up in the air for them too. ”
