This series is proving to be extremely funny, sensual and energetic fun. It’s odd to realize that maybe a few months have passed since the beginning of the series, and it’s disturbing to realize that Sookie is genuinely a beaten and battered women, but the flashes or cruelty and abuse (at the hands of strangers, acquaintances and loved ones) are far outweighed by the playful interactions. In this third installment, romantic miscommunications, pratfalls and slapstick comedy balances the genuinely brutal and malevolent violence. The Bubba character is back, as gimmicky as ever, but the shifting locations, introduction of additional supernatural characters and the expansion of the role of humans in a supernatural world all make for an engrossing, quick read.
