“Not the best young adult fiction”

Her mother died of electrocution after a storm two years before the story began and she lives with her absent father's ex-wife, Brigitte. Afraid that Brigitte will leave her alone and return to France, Lucky decides to run away and seek her higher power, which can only be found at rock bottom. Ultimately though, things are better than Lucky expected, for both herself and Hard Pan.”

She lost her mother at a young age and is now worried she will lose her step-mother too. But does she really want this woman to stay? The story follows her flight from home and her realization of who she is and growing up.
In my ideal classroom, I intend on having my students select their books to do book reports on. I hope that by giving the students the choice, I will make reading more appealing to them. This is quality literature as it is entertaining, but also teaches students values. It forces them to think critically and consider which path they would take.
