Lillian lives with her aunt in the middle of nowhere by the woods. As she is playing in the woods one day, she is bitten by a snake. Because Lillian has been nice to and fed the cats who live out here, they come to help...

It was a cute book. The illustrations were fabulous, the cats were beautiful. It's a cute, quick read.

cpauley929 4 out of 5 stars I read this one a little early because I couldn't wait, but here's the review anyway.

This is an adorable magical tale of a young girl, Lillian, who finds herself in a deadly position. To save her from death, the wild cats that she feeds turn her into a kitten herself. In her search for a way to return herself to her original form, she meets the Apple Tree Man, who she always fed as a girl. In this new, magical world that she learns of through cat's eyes, she discovers how much she misses being a girl. She is also able to see fairies for the first time. Through her acts of kindness in her everyday life, she made magical friends who help her return to girl shape.

This was very cute. The illustrations are beautiful. Understandable as Charles Vess is a master. I hope to own this one day.

Marnie 5 out of 5 stars A beautiful children's book about a little girl named Lillian who lives in the hills. She wants very badly to be able to see faeries, but is never fast enough, she thinks. One day she falls asleep during her quest and gets herself mixed up in more then she bargained for.

The illustrations in this book were gorgeous, I just loved it. There were some in his book called Seven Wild Sisters but nothing like these. It said on the back inside cover that De Lint was working on more tales about the 7 sisters besides these two. I'm not sure if he did or not. I can't figure online for my library which ones are in a series etc.

Judith G 4 out of 5 stars I have to agree with the previous reviews of this book. I loved the story and the illustrations. There is great potential for good book discussion regarding the choices the kitten girl has to make to return to her true self. I'll have to try to get Seven wild Sisters, but at first attempt my library didn't have it.

Gale K said: 4 stars. This is a charming fairy-folktale about a little girl named Lillian and her adventures in the hills and forest around her house. She is an orphan and lives with her Aunt. As she is exploring and looking for fairies she falls into some bad luck and must make some important choices about the path her life will tale. This book has beautiful illustrations and will appeal to both children and adults. Little ones might find some of the illustrations a bit frightening. The book is recommended for 8 and above.
