Although Imogene is the central heroine of Charles de Lint's urban fantasy novel, the story is told from three points of view including Imogene, her friend Maxine, and a ghost boy named Adrian. It can get confusing if you don't pay attention as the chapters switch from "then" to "now" and in the...

    The blue girl
    by Charles de Lint

Do you miss your imaginary friend? If he were to come back, do you think he would bring happiness? or Put you in mortal danger? 16-year old Imogene has been thorough the second one, when his imaginary friend, Pell-mell, or pelly for short, becomes real. When Imogene started to see the school's ghost she tried to talk to him but he would dissapear each time he turned a corner. So she decides to get him to talk to her. And one day in June she went to the school and starting calling him, Adrian Dumbrell, who "Jumped" out of a building. When he finally decides to show up Imogene was still screaming out his name. The first words they ever spoke to each other were
    "you're gonna wake the Janitor!"
Adrian dumbrell fell in love with Imogene then. He told her his story, about when he died, why he died and, most important, how he died. He told her about his friends the "fairies", I, personally, would use the word "Bigfoot". After she met the fairies she started having weird dreams about his imaginary friend coming back to warn her about "Something".

Charles de Lint shows how good of an author he can be. This book should stand amongs his best work. The blue girl is a very good book. It may seem in the title that it is a book for girls but after I read I think it can be for Boys and girls. i must warn that this book has some strong parts.

Seventeen-year-old Imogene’s rebellious nature has caused her more harm than good—so when her family moves to Newford, she decides to reinvent herself. She won’t lose her punk/thrift-shop look, but she’ll try to avoid the gangs, work a little harder at school, and maybe even stay out of trouble for a change. But trouble shows up anyway. Imogene quickly catches the eye of Redding High’s bullies, as well as the school’s resident teenage ghost. Then she gets on the wrong side of a gang of malicious fairies. When her old imaginary childhood friend, Pelly, actually manifests, Imogene realizes that the impossible is all too real. And it’s dangerous. If she wants to survive high school—not to mention stay alive—she has to fall back on the skills she picked up in her hometown, running with a gang. Even with her new friend Maxine and some unexpected allies by her side, will she be able to make it?

This is a book about a girl named Imogene, who has just moved to Newford. She is a very punk-style girl who used to be in gangs, fought, and really didn't care all that much about her school work. But upon arriving at her new school she befriends a very conservative girl, Maxine. They are instant friends are enjoy each other's company immensely. These girls couldn't be anymore opposite, but they change each other for the better, Imogene becomes a little more serious and Maxine loosens up. Imogene ends up getting on the wrong side of the bullies in her new school. And the ghost that haunts the school has a crush on Imogene, and accidentally sicks unfriendly mythical creatures on Imogene.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, even with it's mystical edge to it. It's written beautifully, and I just fell in love with all the characters, they are incredibly three dimensional. Imogene is just a really strong character, and has many great characteristics, one being that she is amazingly brave and sure of herself. She has flaws but overall is a great role model and very inspirational.

The blue girl,by charles de lint is a book about a girl named Imogene. She moves to a new town and has to go to a new school with her brother Jared. Imogene is a loser at her new school and already is marked as someone not to talk to. She befriends a girl named Maxine. Maxine is pretty and could be popular if she changed her nerdy clothing and if she wasn't so smart. Imogene is a tough girl and is standing up to all of her bullies. AS she goes though the year, she realizes that she is being followed at school. She talks to Maxine about it and Maxine says it is the Ghost. The Ghost is a kid who killed himself at the school many years ago. Determined to find the Ghost, Imogene got to great lengths!
I haven't finished the book, but it is wonderful so far! i can't put it down, it is funny, and it very interesting! I think everyone should read it, it is easy to relate to, and is about high school life.

I loved this book so much that I wish that he'd made a sequel! On almost every page the anticipation of what was going to happen next grew and grew. It switches off to three different people's points of views. The first person is the main character Imogene, then her friend Maxine, and lastly Adrian. I suggest this book to anyone who likes a good story!

Leaves you with an entirley different view of fairies. Everything Ive ever heard saw or read about faires is apparentley wrong. Everything about life is wrong. Imogene is such a free spirit. Wears what she wants does what she wants while Maxine is controlled by her mother. The both are loners and friends yet completely opposite. THe friendship reminds of the one in Confessions of A Teenage Drama Queen, if anyones ever seen it. Which I doubt. But still Charles de Lint is a really good writer and knows how to research or just made it all up. If he did more points for him.
