Like life, there are no pat and easy answers in this book. Yet this is an engrossing tale of human survival - while questioning the value and very definition of it at the same time. While having a strong plot, this is a character and idea driven novel.

And while it addresses feminism (somewhat) and race relations (a little), it doesn't treat them in an oppressive or preachy way.

Didn't do too much for me. I thought the concept was interesting but the portrayal of all the humans as being not much better than savages really didn't endear the book to me.
