This book, the grand finale of Grex Cox's Kahn trilogy, nicely bridges the gap between 'Space Seed' and 'The Wrath of Kahn'. Cox weaves an engrossing tale of Kahn and his superhuman followers as they attempt to build a new life for themselves on Ceti Alpha V. Of course, disaster soon strikes and Kahn begins a slow decent into madness as he struggles to survive in the face of Ceti Alpha V's altered climate and the threat posed by the disgusting Ceti eels. It is these struggles that really makes Cox's story great. In the process, Cox makes Kahn sympathetic to the reader--this man has suffered grievous losses, first an empire, then the love of his life, and finally some of his own followers. In a way, Kahn becomes even more frightening, as the reader comes to understand what motivated him in Wrath of Kahn. Kahn stands as one of the greatest Star Trek villains ever and this narrative certainly does him justice. As Kahn said, better to reign in hell than serve in heaven. Highly recommended!

This book was brilliant. I've always wanted to know what happened in the years between Khan's introduction in Space Seed and The Wrath of Khan. I really liked this version of what could have happened and by the end of it all, I felt a little sorry for him. Great read... even if you don't like Trek.
