Liked It“This dark and brutal graphic novel is one of my favourites from Alan Moore. An interesting look into the life of one of the most famous killers of all time. Combining speculation and research into a gripping tale.” see full review » see other reviews » |
Didn’t Like It“A graphic novel should not rely solely on end-notes to create meaning. The point of combining graphic art with text is to create an immediate experience. I don't hate this book because it's complex. I hate it because it takes itself too seriously.” see full review » see other reviews » |

The theory is of course a bit farfetched, however it's apparent that Alan Moore drew from a colossal amount of research to complete this. I think it can best be described as an historical fiction. Artistically I think it's a credible and startling portrait of a madman.
Well, it has to be said. If you're reading this and you're thinking of getting this book, keep this in mind. To enjoy this book, you will have to have little to no inhibitions towards the extreme graphic nature of the book. The story deals with explicit themes and holds nothing back. That said, if you think nothing surprises you anymore, by all means give it a shot. But don't say that I didn't warn you!”
“Really well done graphic novel on the Jack the Ripper murders. Transcends the genre. Haven't yet found an Alan Moore work that I haven't loved.”

Un libro muy muy gris (a pesar de que sea en blanco y negro) que me ha mantenido en tensión hasta el final.
Hay una película con el mismo nombre que me gustó mucho en su momento.”
“I love Alan Moore--the Watchmen collection is one of my favorite books.
But this is just boring, which is terrible to say about a book about a murderer, but it is.
Squiggly illustrations that look like they were drawn by an epileptic at a rave, faux-British accents that reek of cheap porn, and a fascination with minute details that would make Faulkner blush--not my kind of book.”
“An astonishing work. The research that is pulled together here, and then tweaked to give Moore's vision is outstanding. The fact that there are annotations and references cited gives this work even more credibility. But hey, it's not about credibility entirely, it's about Jack the Ripper -- and it's a ripping (ugh) good story.
Eddie Campbell, of course, does a great job rendering the story.
This is a great graphic novel.”
