this is rather like a long, incredible dream that just never stops surprising me. of the trilogy (_the soft machine_ and _nova express_ being the two to preceed this novel) i hear this is the most accessible, but have not yet read the other two...

Didn’t Like It

I really appreciated the lucid dreamscape, the transcontinental story lines, the open sexuality, but somehow it all just failed to add up to a compelling read for me. I wouldn't have guessed that it would be possible to have too many ejaculating penises in one story. Then again, Burroughs is anything but predictable.

    This book is the reason I will never read another Burroughs again. Except of course for Naked Lunch, but something tells me that won't exactly help me regain the faith. He is a void of storytelling.
