If you're looking for a scientific document, or a statement on why we don't believe in gods, this is not the best book for you (try Dawkins). If, on the...” see full review » see other reviews » |

“At times, Mr. Hitchens comes off as somewhat arrogant, (because he is!) but there's no denying his intellect and insight. He makes a strong and compelling argument for rational thinking and reason. ”

Christopher Hitchins delves into the history of religious beliefs and refutes their claims of truth and godly message. No faith is exempt- from the ancient desert religions of the Middle East, the pantheistic Greeks, the earthy Wiccans, the spirit religions of the American Indians, Eastern philosophies to the monotheistic beliefs of Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Mormon. My only critique is that the author uses academic reasons and deductive arguments to convince who? of the ridiculousness and harm caused by religion throughout the ages of mankind. The faithful will pick and choose their truth among his arguments and then reject his premises when he strikes out against their set of creeds. I guess i mostly agree with Mr. Hutchins, but in the depth of my soul, in a tiny corner of my heart, I wish for a gentle spirituality and sacred spaces in my life.”

I was fairly familiar with a lot of the content, so there wasn't a lot that surprised me. But, I would recommend it to anyone who may be having doubts about their own personal religions. ”
