“The king's scholar, the magus, believes he knows the site of an ancient treasure. To attain it for his king, he needs a skillful thief, and he selects Gen from the king's prison. The magus is interested only in the thief's abilities.

What Gen is interested in is anyone's guess. Their journey toward the treasure is both dangerous and difficult, lightened only imperceptibly by the tales they tell of the old gods and goddesses.”

“I really thought it was a good book when it got to the ending. Why couldn't the whole book have been written as well as the ending? It took me about five days to read a little book because I had so much trouble getting in to it. Now I might read the next ones in the series, but it really depends on if they start as slowly as this one did.”

“This was a slower read for me, a nice adventure, and a really fun twist at the end. The end of the book was good enough to convince me to read the next book in the trilogy, The Queen of Attolia. ”
