I loved the culture that was added in. Really it makes up a huge part of the storyline, I love when history meets fantasy :)
I'm with you on this. I love the combination of history and fantasy. If you like that combination you and you are opposed to ghosts; you may want to check out Richie Tankersley Cusick's Walk of the Spirits April 2008 andShadow Mirror March 2010. Also Ruined: A Novel by Paula Morris. You get the element of history with the element of the supernatural. Pretty Cool
I would've given this book 5 stars IF they character would've been older (Maybe 17 or 18 years old) since reading about KIDS being in love at such a young age is ridiculous. But if you disregard that and pretend they're older well you got yourself a good book
I think that it was a good book because it wasn't going too far with sixteen year olds. Yet, I thought that it would have been cooler if Macon were the dog.
I had been thinking that maybe he was actually a werewolf or something. But the seeing eye dog thing was cool too.
Oh yeah I know eh. I totally thought with the whole I see what he sees, that Macon and the dog were somehow connected, that maybe the dog was Macon. Other than that the book was amazing! I don't want to go through reading a year of her life and waiting until she's seventeen. Unless the romantic element heats up a bit.
I thought this was excellently written Kami and Margaret did an awesome with their team effort. I'm looking forward to the next in the series. I love historical (fiction or not) based novels and I love the ones from the south. But I'm a southern girl so I'm a little biased. :-)
I LOVED this book, it sort of reminded me of Twilight, but with Bella and Edward switching the roles. I loved this perspective (Ethan's) and the book never failed to keep me interested. A great book (and will be a great movie), and I cannot wait for the second one!
I wouldn't compare it to Twilight, but I agree: It was a very good book.
I think its way better than twilight
I don't think this was like Twilight at all! I don't mean to offend anyone who likes Twilight, but I really don't think the Twilight series is a good work of writing. I just honestly don't like the books. One of my pet peeves is definitely when people compare any book in the supernatural romance genre to Twilight. Just because they are in the same category doesn't mean every book should be compared to Twilight. A LOT of books in the same genre are way better and deserve more credit, in my opinion. Again, I'm not trying to bash anyone else or tell them their favorite book is dumb or anything. Just writing what I think! :)
i thought twilight was an ok series not like one of my fav like ever one makes it out to be im sick of people comparing every book to it
I just discovered this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. While it is not like Twilight, it does have that mesmerizing quality of drawing you into the story deeper and deeper. The Southern Gothic angle gives it a little of that quirky "True Blood" appeal, but in a YA package. It is a refreshing change from vampires! Being from the south, I got a real kick out of the stereotypes which rang a little too true. I wish the Uncle Macon character could somehow reappear in the next book-there was something between him and Amarie. I just wonder how long they can keep up the romance and hold YA interest if the characters truly can never be completely together. Maybe that is what the next book will reveal. The ties to the past just make this book more interesting. They have done a great job in coming up with an unusual and entertaining story! The hard choices Lena is forced to make should appeal to the YA audience.
In order to find out you can read the next book Beautiful Darkness. Have you read that book yet?
Any idea why the book is called "Beautiful Creatures"? I am just unable to relate the title to the story =)
Lena's uncle calls Mortals beautiful creatures because they think they can stop things that were done long before they came along.
Well, since lena is a caster she is the creature. But, her uncle referred to her as a beautiful creature. get it "Beautiful" "Creatures"
Lena's uncle said once that normal people are kind of beautiful creatures.
ya he also was trying to help amma keep lena and ethan from being together
♠♠ The Caster Chronicles ♠♠
If you read Beautiful Creatures and Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl and loved them as much as I do, please come and join my group for the series :)
Although Lena is only 15 at the time, she seems old souled. She thinks more toward the future and how and what she wants to do. She has changed the most because she realizes that she has to look toward the future and what is to come instead of thinking that it'll be the last thing that makes her her.
I loved this book. It took me a month or two to read but i really loved it. I liked reading from Ethan's point of view.
what curse does she have?
Is this book any good?
Blood of my heart, protection is thine.
Life of my life, taking yours, taking mine.
Body of my body, marrow and mind,
Soul of my soul, to our spirit bind.
Blood of my heart, my tides, my moon.
Blood of my heart, my salvation, my doom.
this book is being made in to a movie i might have to re read it
What did you think the theme of the book was?
I only have one question: What is up with the numbers at each chapter? I don't get it.
Oh my gosh, watched the movie a couple of days ago, and it was TERRIBLE!!!
