Roald Dahl is always a treat to read and he happens to be at his best in this anthology of short stories. Each story takes such breathtaking twists and turns that it leaves you shaken in the end. A must, must read for all fans of Roald Dahl.

What can I say? Roald Dahl short stories. Always an unexpected twist. I've yet to learn to play bridge...

Hey, 8th graders! Did you like the short story "Poison"? This is the collection of short stories from whence it came!

Wonderful short stories with "O. Henry" endings that leave O.Henry in the dust. Basis of the equally wonderful TV series of the same name.

Could not stop thinking of the story "Neck" so I had to order the book for that reason alone. That's just how vivid and lovely this collection is - and how visual, that a story I read 11 years ago was so clear in my mind that it drove me to distraction. For a while, in my memory, I couldn't remember if "Neck" was written by Edward Gorey. That's pretty amazing that something's so vividly written you can't remember it was illustrated or not. All the collections are good-read them all. This also contains the classic 'Lamb To The Slaughter' that was the famous Alfred Hitchcock Presents teleplay and the brilliant, previously-commented on 'Royal Jelly'.

does it get any better than roald dahl? his writing is so good and so funny there is no reason not to read every book he's ever written. this one is a good place to start for adults because, unlike most if his writing, this is a book for adults. these are all short stories with a painful twist at the end. they might frustrate you to no end, but certainly they'll make you laugh and squirm.

Roald Dahl is without a doubt a master of the macabre - a fact I did not discover till my late twenties when I came across his darker tales. Till then, of course, I had grown up on Dahl's children's classics such as Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. It never seazes to amaze me how one mind can produce such great childhood fantasies as well as such sinister tales!

My Roommate..was really shivering when we were doing a Group reading....Horror doesnt really scare me..but gives a modified dose of adreneline.....And Mr.Dahl...perfectly manages to do that...With Flair and Class.
