Marita Golden gets everything right in this novel about a police officer who shoots and kills an innocent man. Readers will come to know the neighborhoods, personalities, and politics of Prince George's County, Maryland, America's wealthiest predominantly African-American county. Unlike the stories of the "bad cop" we hear so often, this book takes us into the mind (and heart) of a good officer tormented by the thought of taking a seemingly innocent life.
