    Wow.
I have just decided that Jim Butcher is the god of Urban Fantasy. His is a name I’ve seen pop up from time to time, but had never actually read any of his books.

Again I get to compare with the likes of Patricia Briggs and Karen Chance, but now I’m comparing them to Mr Butcher, rather than holding them up as the goddesses of Urban Fantasy (though they are!).

Harry Dresden is a great character, a blend of Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart in the Maltese Falcon) and Dirk Gently (from Douglas Adams’s series) with perhaps just a hint of Gandalf. He’s just wonderful.

The whole story is witty, clever and fun creating a very engrossing book, with wonderful character development and a great conclusion.

There is obviously a whole back story, which we’re slowly drip fed throughout the book, which just adds to the mystery. As we are in modern Chicago we don’t need to have the world created for us, but the magical elements are new and only slowly introduced, with Jim Butchers knowledge of the arcane coming through nicely.

This series promises to get better and better as it develops and we learn more about Harry Dresden [Wizard] – read it for yourself and launch yourself into urban fantasy the way it’s supposed to be.

Parts were really entertaining, but characters need more development. I'll try the next couple in the series and see how it goes.

Absolutely one of my favorite that started a new series of "MUST READS" for me. Jim Butcher is a fantastic writer...Im also reading his other series the Codex Alera books....also really well written.

I really loved the concept behind the series, and the first chapter of this book. But it went downhill from there, and in the end I got bored and set this one aside unfinished.

The first book in the series was okay, but not one that really held my rapt attention. It was written from the main character's point of view and there just wasn't enough other characters or conversation to really develop a good story.

About 100 pages into the book. Liking it so far, keeps me wanting to read more. =P I like how it mixes the fantasy world and the real word. I would recommend it to others.
Finished reading the book a couple days ago and I liked it a lot. I really want to get the rest of the series so I can keep reading on.

Take Bruce Willis from Die Hard and make him a wizard in modern day Chicago. This series is great!!!!!!!!
In this we are introduced to Harry Dresden the only wizard in Chicago, he has attitude wit, strength and sarcasm. This is the story about a renegade wizard and the trouble he is causing in Chicago. We are introduced to a vast array of characters Murphy the local police officer,Bob his spirit who helps him and is hilarious. There is a vast amount of fantasy character also introduced
When you start this hang on for a wicked ride.....
