“Just finished this book. Fun read, with promise.”
“Did you see The Dresden Files on Sci-Fi channel? What did you think?I was so looking forward to this series as I love the books. I thought the acting was good, but where is his beat-up beetle, his long coat, and his apartment with no electronics? These are essential to his character! He is not the "cool" guy. The major change was Bob. They made him this gay guy who is always hanging around. He only comes out of the skull when summoned. I hope they incorporate more characters from the books, such as Susan, Michael and Thomas.”
“I'm sorry, I haven't been here in awhile, been busy on other projects. No I didn't see that, I don't have cable but the Sci-Fi channel would be on the top of my list if I did.”
“SciFi is famous for showing episodes out of sequence. I believe that this was the orginal pilot and that they reworked it with some voice over to place it later. Because they did not feel that it was a strong enough lead for the show. I was more pleased with this one in some ways than with the others that I have seen. My mother who has not read the series seems to be enjoying it just fine and tells me to quit complaining. By the way has anyone seen the enw Vikki Nelson series yet?”
“Sunday night's episode did follow the exploding hearts, demon storyline of the first book, but it was strange how now there is a basement, and Susan just appeared. Looks like he is working on the beetle too. Did I fall asleep and miss something? It felt out of place from the other shows.”
“Frakkin' toasters! =)I've only seen the show a couple of times, and I've never read the books. [Gasp!] I know, I know. I'll get aoround to it. i like Harry, but Bob has always bothered me (and I haven't read the books!). I though it was just me!”
“I feel the same way. I need to separate the show from the books. Bob will always bug me though. The next episode is titled Storm Front which makes me wonder if it will follow the book.”
“Slowly, VERY slowly, I am coming to separate in my head the TV show and the books. The books are wonderful, fantastic, and just really good fun. The show they have dimmed Harry's wit, made Murphy into the usual dark haired "tough cop," made Bob into an annoying Brit (and gave him a BODY!!) (AND altered his back story) given Harry a house instead of his uber-paranoid basement, and took away the work room. I like that they show how desirable Harry is, because in the books he has constant opportunities with girls he never takes because of his sense of honor. However, he'd never ask a vampire to bite him. EVER.All by itself its a really good series. I watch it and realize, had I never read the books it would have quickly become a favorite. So slowly I am seeing it an "alternate world" of the Dresden series--like all those comic books that redo their stories from scratch in multiple alternate time lines. I try not to associate it with the books, else I'd never enjoy it. Which is too bad--SciFi found this huge audience but is struggling with the very audience who'd have been most loyal, the readers.”
“Personally, I'm enjoying the series. There are changes, but I accept that no TV show or movie will live up to the pictures I develop in my head when I read the book. I truly like the fact that the stories they are doign are not "re-do's" of the book but rather stand alone episodes of their own. We dont know if this series is before or after the books and I really like that. ”
“I think the TV series is a good adaptation (Better than some I've seen) - Books are always better as our minds provide better effects than any CGI can manage also the build up can have greater depth as the author can tell you what characters are thinking (and why they're thinking it).- Bob was a bit of a let down though”
