Characters/People edit see section history

  • Jean-Christophe: Jean-Christophe is the author's older brother and an epileptic. He is portrayed as a neurotic, self-absorbed invalid; a man ruined by a lifetime of violent seizures, constantly struggling against them and losing to them. The author's pictorial auto-biography revolves primarily around his older brother's epilepsy and how it was the demon that plagued every member of their family.
  • Pierre-Francois: Younger brother, narrator, artist and an individual who grew up in the shadow of his sibling's epilepsy. He shares his family and life history without artifice and while the title centers around his older brother, this is definitely Pierre-Francois's story.
