Brilliant and Funny, very well written. This is one of the books which doesnt play too loud on its ethnicity and hence is NOT irritating. The one liners are wonderful. Somehow it reminds me of "Dharma Bums".

The best Indian ex-pat-in-Britain novel that I’ve read. There’s certainly be a lot of them lately. I got to this one late, written in 1990. Fun portrait of actors & artists in the days of class warfare in Britain of the 60s & 70s. Some tough observations about families, love, self-discovery & the high costs of all three.

so far not that thrilled...basically if you can remember what you were doing in the seventies you weren't doing it right .....so although it all seems fairly recognisable it feels like it is trying too hard!....ok sorry I gave up on it and skipped to the end!!!!I had heard such good reviews etc and it was recommended but I am afraid it left me cold and disapointed

I had to read this in a college English course and it is among the few course texts I remember liking. I just re-read it, 10+ years later. The first half stood up well, the second half lagged this time around. I still found it funny, sharp in its take on race, an overall compelling story.
