Cast of Characters/Important People

  • Samuel W. Westing: Samuel W. Westing is the main character in the book. He dies and 16 people who live or work in the Sunset Towers are brought together to read his will. His will is a puzzle and the 16 people are broken up into pairs to solve the clues. Whoever solves the clues first will get the 200 million dollar fortune.
  • James Shin Hoo: He owns a restaurant in the Sunset Tower where the story takes place. He lives in Sunset Tower with his wife Sun Lin Hoo and jock son Doug Hoo. He blames Samuel Westing for stealing his inventions.
  • Sun Lin Hoo: Wife of James Shin Hoo. She speaks almost no English and it is hard for the other tenants to communicate with her.
  • Doug Hoo: The son of Sun and James Hoo. He is an athlete that spends most of his time working out.
  • The Theodorakis: Theo is the son of George and Catherine Theodorakis who own the coffee shop in Sunset Towers. The also have a son Christos. Christos and Theo are in the will.
  • The Wexlers: Father Jake, Mother Grace, daughters Angela and "Turtle." Turtle is the main character in the book. She is known as a kid who kicks peoples shins if someone touches her braids.
  • Sydelle Pulaski: Sydelle Pulaski is the only one who thinks to write down the will while it is being read. This makes her the most wanted person to befriend in the game.

First Sentence

The sun sets in the west (just about everyone knows that), but Sunset Towers faced east.
