I love the illustrations by N. C. Wyeth. If you are at the library, try to find more books illustrated by the Wyeth family.

Ok for adolenscents or young children though the Scottish brogue may be a bit difficult. Really dull for adults.

This is a beautiful tale of adventure, greed, passion, politics, and friendship. It also features gorgeous Highland scenery. ;-) I keep wondering about the end line, though, because the bank's name has to be listed for a particular reason. Doing research, I think it could be that it was founded around the time of the novel, as a Scottish bank, not a British bank. There must be relevancy here. Any other thoughts?

Hard to beat when I read it as a teen or preteen, like Treasure Island, captured the imagination in a way all the Disneyesque movies never did.
