This is a must-read for all educators. Most educators cannot see from the perspective of a person with a physical disability like Glenda Watson Hyatt. If we are to meet the needs of all of our students it is important that we have an understanding of what the world looks like from their perspective. By sharing her life experiences we become more able to see the world through her eyes. As a teacher involved in "special education" with a special interest in inclusive teaching practices, I like to think of myself to be someone who is not "Ableist" (see my review of New Directions in Special Education by Thomas Hehir). Reading Glenda's book helped me identify areas in which I still need to learn. By reading Glenda's book, hearing her voice, and considering her perspective, I am more able to understand how to be more inclusive.
