“My rating is kind of misleading... this is actually a pretty good read. The plot is fast-paced and gripping. It's just that I loathe horror stories. This book cuts off with an unresolved ending, which leads me to think that there will be a sequel (or sequels) but I highly doubt I'll be coming...”see full review » see other reviews »

“After Reggie Halloway, reads a book called The Devouring to her little brother, Henry, strange things start to happen. The book tells of creatures called vours that can take over a person’s body, but Reggie believes the story is make believe. That is until Henry starts acting weird. He now hates the cold and finds enjoyment by killing animals. Can Reggie figure out how to get her brother back before it is too late or will her brother be possessed by a vour forever?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a scary read. I usually do not enjoy scary books but this book was just scary enough. This book had everything from friendship to body possessing demons. This book had twists and turns and it keeps you guessing. It was one of the best horror novels I have ever read!
“This book was very intriguing, however, at parts it could be kinda graphic.”Sheala Rael wrote this review Tuesday, October 2, 2012. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“The Devouring by Simon Holt is a thriller that always made me want to keep reading. The book is about a 16 year old girl named Regina Halloway. Her mother recently left her, her younger brother and her father withought explaination. She finds an old journal at the book shop she works at. She takes it home and showsit to Aaron, her best friend, and together they try to trigger the monsters to come to their house on Sorry Night, the night of the feasting of the Vours. In the middle of them trying to lurethe Vours to them, something goes wrong and her little brother Henry is taken by the monsters. Regina, her friend Aaron, and her boss go on a very eventful adventure to get Henry back. But when they think it's all over, they get a big surprise. The things I liked about this book was the suspense and the description. The description so vivid it sucks you in so you feel like your in the book with the characters. What I do not like about this book is that the ending is a cliff hanger, and if your not a very patient person and you don't have the book, then it's very irritating to wait.”Megan wrote this review Monday, October 1, 2012. “Did not like this book! I was almost to the end and quit. Just could not read anymore. I am more gothic horror girl. The mother in the story just ups and leaves this I just could not stomach, the 8 yro is possessed I didn't like that because he gets mean and nasty. Will not read bk 2..”readragon wrote this review Friday, August 31, 2012. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
