“For some reason I just couldn't get into this one. I found the writing sloppier than in any of the other books of the series. And I know Braun has to put a little background in each book for those who are just popping into the series but, in the case of this installation, it came out sounding redudant to anyone who already knew about Moose County and its residents but probably wouldn't have been enough revelation for someone who didn't. I guess that's my long-winded way of saying the formula went a little stale.
And, even though this series has very devoted readers who will buy and read each book out of habit and loyalty I cannot stress enough that the editing should still be as slick and thoughtful as it would be for any new imprint. In the case of this book, there were parts that didn't flow, words that were used two and three times on the same page (in ways that stood out, obviously, not just normal linguistics) and a plot that, overall, needed a LOT more tweaking than it was given.
I love the series and I love the author but I beg her not to overestimate my devotion. I can make a clean break if I have to. If the writing doesn't go back to the way it started there will be no reason for me to keep buying these books.”
