What a tremendous story! I read it in one day; couldn't put it down. Lots of grim facts, but the author is wonderful with them, and the ending was a bit of a surprise.

This book made me mad. Brooks started off wonderfully with a compelling narrator who chronicles the hardships of living in her tiny, quarantined village during a resurgence of the Plague in 1666. While it's difficult to read about all of the deaths (especially of the young children), it was...

This is a great story about the strength of a small English village battling against the unknown, the Black Plague. The narrator is a strong woman trying to survive continued loss of family and friends. Lots of detail about life in a small village in 1665.

This was a wonderful historical novel of one woman's fight to stay alive in a small village that was hit with the plague.

A fascinating story of the effect of the plague of 1666 on a small English village. It's about the conflict between those who saw the plague as the judgement of a wrathful God and those who tried to understand its cause and course by observation.

Great book about an isolated English village that seals itself off from the outside world when the plague arrives. Fiction based on an actual events.

I read this book in preparation for a rtrip to the Passion Play in Oberammergau next year. It gave a realistic look at what living through the plague must've been like in the 1660's. Difficult subject, but luminous writing.

This book was hard for me to put down. Since it concerns how the plague affects a tiny English village in the 17th C, it is pretty horrifying and depressing, yet it was an excellent read.
