Ham on Rye

by Charles Bukowski

In what is widely hailed as the best of his many novels, Charles Bukowski details the long, lonely years of his own hardscrabble youth in the raw voice of alter ego Henry Chinaski. ham on rye is very different from bukowski's other novels. it's sort of dark and bitter. obviously, you can still smell his unique style, but the reason i like it so much is that without all those dirty jokes and scandalous factor, it's still a very good piece of writing.

Honest! To me Bukowski =honesty. I can relate to Bukowski's writings easily. He wouldn't let society have all of his soul. A great writer! Write-on Bukowski!

why are there only two of us posting (so far) about a bukowski book? come on people!!! bukowski was one of the greatest literary minds of our time. he didn't sugarcoat, dip it in honey or censor what he put down on paper. is it that why people didn't like him? because of his blatant, naked honesty? let them go back to their romance novels! i'll stay right here.
