Though I understand how someone can feel the meaninglessness of everything, I can't feel for the character at all. The story just goes on and on about his alcoholic, gambling and womanizing lifestyle. His post office job may not be the best one for a creative mind like him but he lacks the drive to improve his conditions.

Fun, quick read. Lotsa ego, but mixed-up with enough misfortune to make it
    tolerable/laughable. Reads like a self-aware diary.

Bukowski's a hero of the oppressed intellect, like mine, I'll be looking for him at the thrift store where I take all my used books

Still Bukowski, so still a good read, but Women and Ham on Rye were much more captivating, I thought.

Loved this. Hilarious, gritty, dirty, erotic (in an odd way)...good stuff.

    Tough, cynical and bitingly funny.
