“A book about cloning written at the turn of the century. A great little novelette. Just bizarre. “Not to go on all-fours; that is the Law. Are we not Men? “Not to suck up Drink; that is the Law. Are we not Men? “Not to eat Fish or Flesh; that is the Law. Are we not Men? “Not to claw the Bark of Trees; that is the Law. Are we not Men? “Not to chase other Men; that is the Law. Are we not Men?” Sounds like a Devo song.”

We get a feeling of this fiction getting in to reallity while moving through the pages. And who knows !!!!! It could be brought to reallity with the power of Human Brain !!!!”

As a result, when I finished it I thought of it as a freaky adventure story with a few comments on evolution.
However, after reading the afterword by Brian Aldiss, I realized how deep the rabbit hole really goes with this thing. H.G. Wells has not only talked about evolution and weird science, but tied in religion, the human capacity for reason, the abuse of knowledge, and enough other deep thoughts to make your head spin. I might have to give it a second read sometime.
If you can pace yourself while reading it to let the ideas sink, then I recommend the read.”
