I felt transported to this locale by Annie Proulx and know that I would not be able to live in Woolybucket for any length of time. It took me four or five chapters to really get hooked on the story and after that I wanted to find out if the hog farms would prevail.”

I felt the characters were more believable than the plot. ”

I fall in love with her characters and I want to move to the towns she creates in her books. No matter how downtrodden they may appear to outsiders, Proulxs' communities are rich in life and love under the surface.”

I also liked the thread regarding heritage and development changing the landscape. The characters are very colourful and have a fullness and complexity to them that I enjoyed. Overall I quite enjoyed it and would recommend it.”
