“Wow!!! If you like puzzles, this one is for you. It kept me guessing until the end. And then once I reached the end, I wanted to go back and re-read it to pick up on all the hints I missed along the way.
What I love about this book is how seamlessly it shifts between time periods--which is initially disorienting but eventually adds to the puzzle-like nature of the book. The time shifting is masterfully done--you barely even realize it's happening--and adds so many layers and dimensions to the story.
I won't spoil the story by saying anything more about it. What I will say is figuring out how the three storylines intertwine was one of the best reading events for me of recent memory. The intersection of the themes of identity theft (it's a high-tech theme, but the technology barely causes a ripple in the story--these stories could have taken place anytime, anywhere) with identity, period is skillful. The experience was made particularly poignant by reading the author's acknowledgements at the end--that's when I nearly lost it. Ultimately, this book is as much about the things we lose as it is about the ways in which we find ourselves (if we ever really do). It's heartbreaking, poetic, and worth every second.”
