Unquestionably a great historic novel. Chabon is a great writer, among the best. A Pulitzer Prize winning novel is supposed to accurately portray a particular time period in American history, and Kavalier and Clay certainly does that; in this day and age of homosexuality gaining some public acceptence, it might surprise some of the younger folks to read about how rigorously a homosexual once had to hide his secret. This novel had it all. I highly recommend it.

I just finished this book and although I loved it, I feel like I need a better explanation of why Sammy had to leave. Anyone?

Pretty incredible. I waited a long while to read this and finally did when my older son highly recommended it. A great history of comic books in among the amazing story of these two men.

A favorite read from last year takes place in my favorite city, NYC. I loved it, and it is often on my mind. World War II history, great story, comic books, magicians, twisting plot and written very well.

I really enjoyed this book...the character development was great. There were parts that were just a tad bit too slow, though...and the ending left me feeling a bit unfinished. It was such a great story, though, with a lot of history in it....in all honestly, I'm still a bit unsure as to whether the Escapist was really a comic book (I've never been a big comic book reading....okay, Archies when I was a kid...not quite the same caliber, though!). Chabon made enough references to lead me to believe that it's based on a real comic book...but I'm not sure.....any answers?
