I just started this book this morning. I FINALLY got it. Still need Fugitives and Refugees and Snuff. Then I'm good. Until Pygmy...

So far, so good. Gotta love Palahniuk.

I've read a book with the same format before(The Witch of Portebello), so I thought I would be used to the way Chuck was writing, but the way in which the story switched from one person to another was confusing and hard to follow. The first few pages of the book were really attention grabbing, but by the time I reached around fifty pages, I was ready to give up. I'll probably continue reading the novel after a few days or so, but so far, I am unimpressed.

This bool is edgy, funny, weird, sad and spooky in parts. If everysingle on of us thought about the stupid things we do, i would wager there are some killer stories out there. Look deeper at how the world is being run and who is doing the running.

This book is an amazing display of Chuck's talent. With is unconventional style one can feel a little disinterested in the middle, but when it somes up towards the end it just becomes awesome. Chucks observations and his hidden messages are just out of the ordinary. I really feel this book is worth it.

I thought it was his worst book so far.... Fight Club, Survivor, Choke, Invisible Monsters, were all excellent. Lullaby is where he started to fall off even though I still loved it.... then Diary, and Haunted sucked so much that I couldn't even finish them and they sat for years on the shelf. I just read Rant, and it did get me back in the mood, which made me finish Diary and Haunted, and I got Snuff. but I have to say, Rant was not a very good book. well written, and intriguing, but in the end I felt like I had just read garbage. and Snuff is pretty terrible too (i'm about half way through) I think Chuck ran out of shit! (lost his touch) too bad... they all go astray someday...

This is the first in a "Rant" series. When I saw him speak at Coolidge Corner in Brookline, he said he was writing several - I want to say three - books about Rant and co. He's got some other good, twisted stuff up his sleeve in the meantime, though...

Has Chuck been reading David Icke lately? (Not a spoiler)

I work in a Barnes and Noble store where a number of my fellow staff and I are Palahniuk fans. We were lucky enough to pass around an advanced reader copy of the book, which I finished in a couple of days. (Palahniuk reads like a crack hit: quick and intense) We have some mixed opinions on it.
I liked the direction that the book took, hinting at more than was actually written.
Some of my coworkers were a little put off by the thematic material and the frantic changes of direction that the book takes.
Still, I'm curious, has Chuck been getting into David Icke's work? Some of the hints are there and I'm curious.
