“Gross, boring story. The plot makes no sense and the synopsis has nothing to do with the actual story. Neither does the title.”

The main character is a simple man named Victor Mancini. He is a sex addict (so he is not necessarily the simplest of men). Victor has a sick mother who quite old and in care at a hospital: St. Anthony's. In order for Victor to keep his life in check, paying his own expenses, paying for his mother's care etc, he needs to make money. Victor does not have a job. He goes to fancy restaurants, and evokes himself to choke on purpose. The people who save him send Victor checks. They believe themselves as saviors, and they feel proud when they know that their save-ee, Victor, is doing well. Palahniuk writes this book to help us understand a new meaning of life, and how it ties in with heroism and chaos.
I love this book. It is purely original. The way Palahniuk writes is amazing. The book is really well written, and is always never boring. I learned a lot from this novel. Either it be, other people's views on the world, or just the 2346434563 random facts that Chuck writes about. The characters in the book are also very ingenious/creative. All of them have different beliefs. They all have different things to say. I really loved this book. I would recommend it to people, but I can't guarantee that other people would also like it. I mean, everyone is different, and that includes tastes in books.”
“Disappointing, especially after Fight Club.”

PS the movie really wasn't a bad interpretation, but you gotta read the book to really get to know the characters (love the mother's hypnotic channeling of dead celebrities!)”

Although I would've liked to see Steve Zahn play Victor in the movie instead of Sam Rockwell, that's really neither here nor there since this is shelfari and not the imdb.”
