I heard really bad reviews of this book when it first came out which is why I waited for paperback to read it. People report to have been turned off by the subject matter focusing only on what seems to me to be the sub plot of Madeline, the mentally challenged woman living with her ex-husband and his second wife. Some how, I was given the impression that the book would be entirely focused on the trials a couple living with the husbands ex-wife who has been in an accident and is causing all...

Didn’t Like It

Did not like it much. Thought it was going all over the place. The flow was a bit jumpy making me feel the author brings up things as they come to her mind. I thought the reason for the division of the families was not compelling enough. And Madeline just seems to be a background character, that we can still have Mac's coming of age story even without Madeline in it.

But to me it is a good book on family relationships, in particular with how we see our parents,...
