Fantastic - I felt like this was the active companion piece to Susan Faludi's more cerebral exploration of post-9/11 America, "The Terror Dream." Some of Ms. Wolf's examples feel strained, but her thesis - that America can slip more easily and more quickly into fascism, and has already begun to...

This book, I hope will soon be obsolete. But just in case the far right revives itself, please get a copy and see the blueprint for dictatorship which Naomi Wolf has sussed out in the way things were done during the Bush years.

If you learn one thing from this book, it's that it is every American's responsibility to take an active role in the way this country is run. We can't sleep walk through our Democracy or we'll lose it: so slowly, so quietly, we won't even know until it's gone.

As a former Republican, I expected to be annoyed by this. It was worse than that... I was APPALLED. Not by the book, but by my government. This is a must-read (there's that phrase) but if you want to be enlightened as to how our civil liberties are being stolen... this is the book to do it.

Definitely a must-read book for every concerned American. I can clearly recall the hairs standing up on the back my neck when I first heard the term "Homeland Security," which immediately reminded me of both Nazi Germany's characterization of "the homeland" and Communist Russia's characterization of "the motherland." Naomi Wolf pointed out that exact "echo" of history in her introduction, along with far too many more. This is a chilling analysis of where America might be headed without serious citizen intervention.

The shift from Republic to Empire is underway. Naomi Wolf makes a great argument. The best part is that she addresses patriots, that is, people who wish to stay with the freedoms that this Republic has promised for over two centuries. GW Bush's America does not resemble the America of the Founders. Secret prisons, torture, the ability to arrest anyone the President, any President, deems as an enemy combatant have clearly shown that we may be losing our fragile democracy. This book should be read and discussed. Nice clear writing.
