“This is a really great series. It's like murder mystery meets teenage high school drama. The interest in this series started when the ABC family Tv show started. This series will keep you wondering who A is till the very end. You will not want to put the books down, I didn't.”Marisol Perez wrote this review Friday, July 6, 2012. Imagine living in a world where you best friend's killer is on the loose. Imagine being threatened by someone who seems to know everything about you, but you do not know anything about them. In Pretty Little Liars, by Sara Shepard, four best friends, Aria, Hanna, Spencer and Emily, are being threatened by an unknown person who signs each mysterious text or note with the letter A. The girl' best friend, Alison, was killed and the girls think that Ali's killer is connected with A. In this twelve book series, the four best friends take the reader through many frightening adventures and try to solve the mystery of who A and Ali’s killer is.
Pretty Little Liars is very intense and leaves you wanting to read more. Every chapter ends with a new surprise and cliffhanger. “The summer turned into a school year, which turned into the next summer. Still no Ali. The police continued to search-but quietly. The media lost interest, heading off to obsess over a Center City triple homicide. Even the DiLaurentises moved out of Rosewood almost two and a half years after Alison disappeared. As for Spencer, Aria, Emily and Hanna, something shifted for them ,too. Now if the passed Ali’s old street and glanced at her house, they didn’t go into insta-cry mode. Instead, they started to feel something else. Relief.” (Shepard, 51) By just reading this small quote, it makes the reader wonder why the girls feel relieved after their best friend disappeared. The quote make you want to read more and learn more about Ali and the others. Pretty Little Liars is the type of book you can pick up from the library and return it within two days. It is about 300 pages long and a great way to expand your vocabulary and continue reading. Some books seem very boring to me, but while reading Pretty Little Liars, I am alert and wanting to read more and more. Also, on ABC family, Pretty Little Liars is a popular television show. It has the same plot and basic ideas, but some things are different. So if you have ever seen the television show, but have not read the books, I would highly recommend reading them because of how adventurous and entertaining each book is. Overall, once I begin a new Pretty Little Liars book, I find myself reading it whenever I can and never putting it down.
I would advise teenagers and young adults to read this book. Some parts of the novel may be inappropriate for young children. If you are looking for a fun book to become hooked on, and if you are interested in adventure and mystery, Pretty Little Liars is the book for you. Read to find out who Ali’s true killer is and who else, besides Ali, knows all the girls’ secrets. Is Alison A, the person who has been sending the girls texts about their personal lives and things only Alison knows? Is she really dead? Who would want to kill Alison? “But the girls were also afraid of her. Ali knew more about them than anyone else did, including the bad stuff they wanted to bury- just like a body. It was horrible to think Ali might be dead, but… if she was, at least their secrets were safe.” (Shepard, 52.)
“I think this book was really good because there was a lot of drama and was some funny parts. Its about friendship and you can not trust a pretty, popular girl. ”Jessica Serikawa wrote this review Thursday, May 24, 2012. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“ Pretty Little Liars is about four girls named Aria, Hannah, Emily, and Spencer, they all use to be best friends who ruled the school along with their leader Alison. After one of their annual summer sleepovers in Spencer’s barn Alison ran out and was never seen again. It has been a few years since that tragic das and the girls have lost touch. But when Aria moves back to Rosewood after living in another country, things start getting weird and the girls start receiving notes. The notes are all about things that only Alison knew, but she was dead so how could this be possible? Who’s writing them these notes and signing it “-A”? Is Alison alive or is someone pretending to be her?
I really enjoyed this book because it kept me interested the entire time I read it. I felt like I could connect to all of the characters. The story was very well planned and the hints and clues came together nicely. This book is like other books I read because it has mystery, romance, and all of the other things young adult novels contain. Even though the main idea of the book is about a them getting notes from a stranger which isn’t the normal, other details and problems the girls face are situations real teenagers are put through every day. I think other teenaged girls would also really enjoy it because it keeps you guessing until the very end (of the series).
