Different from her other books, but I enjoyed it.

This was a favourite as a teen for me, and I still love it. The main characters are a sorceress and a celibate warrior/priestess. Plenty of magic, adventure, and drama, along with a heavy dose of girl-power and a bit of humor make this and the two sequels(Oathbreakers and By the Sword) fun to read.

In my top two of the Valdemar trilogies. Kethry and Tarma are the dream team - and moreover, they're both brave, smart, talented, amazing women, in two startlingly different ways. I'm picky about my characters (oy vey, am I picky), but I was actually pleasantly surprised to find I was able to enjoy them both, and delighted in following their adventures. Sometimes lighthearted and funny, sometimes deep and tragic and profound, but always, always, always spectacular.

I really enjoy the Valdemar books, but for the common reader a few notes... If you're homophobic don't read them, this author is very open about alternative lifestyles and it can sometimes interfere with the story line. My husband liked these books, but I don't see a lot of men enjoying them. It almost (but not quite) crosses the line between fantasy and romance. I still really enjoyed them and I have to say I haven't met a romance book I've liked yet. Because of the unique approach these books read like no other fantasy book I've ever read and I give them very high marks. I actually ready most of the books written by Mercedes Lackey in about a months time I enjoyed them so much (much to my husbands dismay).

Mercedes Lackey is one of my favorite authors. I eagerly consume every fantasy book she has written. This is just an example of one of hers. I have read them all! She is one of the few authors I will re-read.

This was the other Mercedes Lackey series I think I had liked the best. I had already known parts of the story though, before I read them, from songs that the author had wrote. She's wonderful for writing songs about her characters. I think the lyrics are in the back of the book. Very cool!

I've enjoyed reading all the books connected to Valdemar. To get a complete picture of that world, you need to read all the books.

A collection of “sword and sorcery” stories with the mage Kethry and her sworn sister, the swordswoman Tarma. Together, they tell the story of how the two women forge a true sisterhood and defeat their weaknesses and enemies—well, first they make an enemy, then they defeat him. Good stories.
