ghost of a rose said: It is a shame that The Rose and The Beast has been labeled Young Adult. I suppose it was because the book is so short, a quick read. But there are several very adult themes in it that may not be suitable for all young people. And the complexity and profundity of the writing and symbolism are such that, the more life experiences a person has had, the more books one has read, and the more maturity the reader has, the more he or she will get from this book. This was a difficult book to read. I thought I would be ok with the different fairy tales, but I wasn't, it didn't sit well with me.
