“It's been a long time since I read this. I remember it was a little weird.”

This story could have been told just as well, and actually much more entertaining, in about 1/4 of the words used to tell this tale of parallel universes, time travel, mad scientists, etc.... I truly felt that I was torturing myself reading this at times, but had already invested time & found myself interested enough to continue reading, although it was painful. The book began beautifully, jumping immediately into the search for a kidnapped little boy. The main character, Chris, takes on following the kidnapper, but then the story turns into some kind of creepy nightmarish situation and the children don't come into play again until the very end of the book. I don't mean to be critical, but this book just was too long and drawn out! I swear there were descriptions that went on for pages and pages.... I'll continue to read Koontz because I've read enough to know that I like his writing, but some of it is just not "my cup of tea".”

The story can get confusing at times and I found myself reading back to understand some parts of the book. The characters are lovable but a little creepy. This book had my imagination running, the most vivid part in my mind is when Chris enters the egg room and sees Hougenson in his suit the the "bugs" come out of him. I would like to explain other parts of the book but don't want to give away too much. I HIGHLY recommend this book to someone who is a fan of mystery thriller books”

Dean Koontz is imaginative for sure, and I am just glad he doesn't make movies that would freak me out. ”
