Finklestein takes no prisoners. He is especially brutal to well-known criminal defense attorney Alan Dershowitz, who is thoroughly pilloried... with footnotes and citations that would seem familiar in any District or Superior Court... for intellectual dishonesty, ranging from disingenuous political pandering to plagerism. Finklestein's main point, beyond the fairly personal cat-fight with Dershowitz, is well taken: that apologists for the Zionist political enterprise, a vocal and influential fraction of the American political establishment, have played fast and loose with the facts, both in lobbying Washington for their policy preferences, and the contest for public opinion in he mass media. Very entertaining.

Norman Finkelstein shows with absolute clarity how far Israel apologists and sympathizers will go to justify the unjustifiable.

He documents crimes committed by the Israeli government and how these crimes were sugar coated and then used as a proof of the "morality" of the zionist state.

Great book and a must read for anyone who is interested in the middle east conflict(s) and Human rights.

This a very interesting non-fiction book about the way Israel is abusing history. But, apparently you're not allowed to write about these things, since Norman Finkelstein (a jew) lost his position at the university where he workes, after this book was published.

Finkelstein uses a rebuttal against much of Alan Dershowitz's "scholarship" as a means of contributing to the dialogue about the Israel-Palestine conflict. Since Finkelstein was taking on someone with more name recognition, who also works for a more prestigious institution--and, I would assume, since Finkelstein knew he would be up for tenure review around the time of this book's publication--it has less of the sarcasm and caustic wit that were in his previous books (not that they were full of either--he does do good research and isn't merely throwing out inflammatory rhetoric). If sober, academic writing is your bag, you'll like this. If you like a bit of flair with the facts, however, this book will likely bore you during significant stretches of it. But either way, in the end it's a very entertaining book. Finkelstein annihilates Dershowitz's credibility. The book makes a good case for the argument that Dershowitz is guilty of plagiarism, misrepresenting other people's writings, making completely unfounded assertions, and grossly distorting the truth to fit his defense of Israel. The paperback edition includes a peer review article at the end that is absolutely priceless.

Beyond Chutzpah is one of the most daring pieces of literary excellence in history. Norman Finkelstein, a Political Science professor and 2nd generation American Jew, took a brave stand for human rights and accountability with regards to the Israeli/Palestinian issue by debunking one of the most popular pro-Zionist apologists in decades, Alan Dershowitz. For this act, Finkelstein was denied tenure and banned from Israel, his ancestral homeland, for 10 years. Beyond Chutzpah discusses the Israeli/Palestinian conflict and its applications for today by analyzing the books' two points of discussion - the tendency of pro-Israeli and pro-Zionist apologists to scream "anti-semitism!" at any negative criticism of Israel and its actions, and Alan Dershowitz' The Case for Israel, which has been championed as a "proactive defense of Israel." On both points, Finkelstein charges NONSENSE and FRAUD. Don't take my word for it - pick up a copy of Beyond Chutzpah today, and hold on for the ride!!
