Incredibly depressing, but good story and good writing. Has a guessable surprise ending. Did I mention that it is depressing?

One of the best books I have read. If you haven't read Odd Thomas yet, you need to out and get this book no joke...seriously get going, get it now. All the things you can ask for in a book, innocence, romance, humor, thriller, supernatural, mystery, thriller, murder, weridness, elvis, I mean what else do you need. read this book you will not be disappointed.

Though haven't read much of koontz,so wont talk much about whether its one of his best or not.. but i was definitely left stunned by it...
an ordinary man who doesnt reamin so ordinary coz of his extraordinary gift...
not an unusual story, but i was so touched by the end of the story....

In the small town of Pico Mundo lives Odd Thomas (yes thats actually his real name!). Odd knows he's not normal he can see the dead. He is otherwise normal, he works as a short order cook at the Grille and has a girlfriend. But, when a strange person, dubbed 'Fungus Man' by Odd, walks into The Grille surrounding by strange dark beings Odd knows that this is bad. Finding he has an obsession for mass murderers and wishing to make a similar career, Odd has to stop him before he commits on August 15. Today is August 14.

I loved this book. The protagonist Odd was dark and mysterious. This book was just punch-by-punch for him. Slowly gripping him and breaking the character down. There were intense moment all over ever chapter more and more captivating than the last. The only thing I disliked was my guilt for loving it. I felt guilty because I enjoyed how the main character was methodically torn apart. And the ending? Sadest that I have read and yet one of the best.

I thought the writing was good at times and often funny, but the story dragged along in the middle. I will not look for another by this author.

A superb read! Much better than any other Koontz novel I've read in the past.
