“The dead don't talk. I don't know why.” But they do try to communicate, with a short-order cook in a small desert town serving as their reluctant confidant. Odd Thomas thinks of himself as an ordinary guy, if possessed of a certain measure of talent at the Pico Mundo Grill and rapturously in love with the most beautiful girl in the world, Stormy Llewellyn. Maybe he has a gift, maybe it’s a curse, Odd has never been sure, but he tries to do his best by the silent souls who seek him out. Sometimes they want justice, and Odd’s otherworldly tips to Pico Mundo's sympathetic police chief, Wyatt Porter, can solve a crime. Occasionally they can prevent one. But this time it's different.

A mysterious man comes to town with a voracious appetite, a filing cabinet stuffed with information on the world's worst killers, and a pack of hyena-like shades following him wherever he goes. Who the man is and what he wants, not even Odd’s deceased informants can... see complete book description

Odd Hours was okay, not what I expect. I don't know. It feels like there's something missing. There's no Odd magic in it. The manga was okay too, you get to see the characters in their manga form. But before anyone jumps at my throat, no disrespect to the artist, but, Dean Koontz himself said, the character in the manga is not how he really see how Odd will look like. I was kinda disappointed too. Not that he's ugly or anything. But somehow, in Koontz's description, and in a way, agreeing with him, he could be anybody. He said that most people think he somehow look like Edward Norton or some other actor. I don't know, for me, I do agree with Koontz, not that the artist didn't do justice with her artwork. It was good. With the case of Stormy, she looks good. But with Odd, I don't know, I expected more. Not handsome, but more appealing. By the Odd Series, I have an inkling that Odd maybe your typical guy but he would probably a little good looking, or nice looking for people or strangers to trust him that way. So yeah, I picture him as the type you do bring home to meet your folks. Both in Odd Hours and In Odd We Trust, I expected more. I was a little disappointed. I already finished both but I don't have the same feeling I get from the other Odd series. but, they are both okay. This time he is with Sinatra in Odd Hours, while he is still with Elvis and yes in Pico Mundo in the manga.

I just finished, and with the exception of 1 chapter close to the end, I loved it. (I'm just a hopeless romantic)

Karen...it's been a while since I've read "Dark Rivers of the Heart" or "False Memories"...I'm going to have to go back and read those again! I am going to pull out Strangers and re-read it as well. I'm afraid that I only have Rivers in Strangers in paperback which I hope to amend. I wear those down to tatters, then never can find them through the piles when I want to read them.

I LOVE all the "ODD" books. What a great character; what a great juxtaposition between fantasy and reality.
