Didn’t Like It“Too gruesome for my tastes. His two cop characters are well done; sympathetic and believable. The descriptions of the villain and the darkness of the fact that he prays on the homeless and destitute is a little much for me. “Koontz delivers yet another unique and original novel. A story that revolves around several characters rarely transitions from perspective to perspective so seamlessly, but Koonts pulls it off flawlessly. This book makes you feel for the characters, feel their fear, their resilience, their gusto. And when all the loose ends tie up, you feel their relief, and applaud the ending. Well done, Koontz.”

I thought the villian was excellent, the "doggy-voice" segments were spot-on (the dog was NOT a golden retriever - yay) and I especially enjoyed the entire sci-fi aspect of the "paused-time" sequence. The only thing that took a bit away from my total enjoyment of this story was that the protagonist seemed to have too much insight into the antagonist's nature too early in the tale.”

The heroes are classic good guys and the bad guy is powerful and mean, a classic good vs. evil mix. Koontz often covers paranormal activities, with varying success--I feel he got this one better than he has in several other novels. My favorite parts were those written from Woofer's point of view--I really felt like I was listening to a dog! Would definitely read again.”

Was wriiten too much like an adult grotesque fairy tale for my liking, with a very thin plot. Too much drugs and harmful chemicals engendering supernatural powers in a body? Please!”

The story gets told through all characters including the dog. Having the dog tell the story here and there was interesting gave the book which contained a horrific, sick-minded supernatural killer a little bit of light heartedness. I read it fairly quickly; the book was pretty fast paced and not that many pages.”
