Is Briony the biggest brat in the world, or what?

Every now and then you need a tragic love story. Atonement is beautifully written with palpable emotion. And who can resist a setting in WWII rural England? Gorgeous!

This haunting and truly tragic tale, divided into three sections, was very compelling with its tense and sometimes foreboding mood. I was drawn in by McEwain’s vivid descriptions of the English countryside and the World War II battlefields in France. I appreciated this book for its well-developed characters and McEwain’s honest description of the complexities of human nature. The film is equally enjoyable.

A captivating book. The best book I've ever read. A book about consequences, regret and life alerting decisions. Thirteen-year-old Briony Tallis reads s letter addressed to her elder sister, Cecilia, from their housekeeper's son, Robbie. This causes her to acusse an innocent of a horrible crime that change all of their lives forever.
