I think this is what they call a "trashy novel".

I really enjoyed the first book I've read by Perrota, and I'm planning on picking up Election. It was a bit scary - I found myself relating all to well to some of the characters, which made it tough for me to separate myself from what was going on. I'm not proud of it, but it's the truth. As an 8 month pregnant woman, I felt like I was reading about my greatest fears coming true. Not suggested for my high school students mainly because their frame of reference and life experience just isn't there yet.

This novel was very disappointing. Not a single character triggered a spark of compassion in me. Sarah exasperated me - I wanted to shout to her : "You want to go away ? Then go away ! Do something !" She's not touching, she's desperate but hard. The killer story did not add much, it seems like something just peppered on the rest to spice it up - but there were not enough elements to add some flavour and the ingredients simply did not mix at all ! Little Children is just another novel on conformist, suburban alienation - and there are dozens of books that are a lot better on the subject. It looks like a bad TV show.

This is a disturbing novel because of all the dysfunctional characters. Even the good guys have a distorted sense of values.

Desperate Housewives meets real life drama. Quite a sad story in many ways, and disturbingly relatable...
