“Very well written, behind the scenes look at the Obama campaign. He had great access, and so has some very illuminating stories/background information. It fleshed out the details behind the key moments, images, decisions, and speeches made during the long primary season and the general campaign.
Had good insight into the key players of the campaign, including President Obama.”
“Beautifully written and as political junkie the inside stuff is really terrific.”

I'm a huge fan of this president, primarily because he seems like a polar opposite of the last one. I didn't know that much about him, however, as he was still in the earliest stages of his political career, when I lived in Illinois. I'd heard this book was good, so I picked it up to learn more about this charismatic speaker, who has given so much hope to so many "average" Americans, beaten down by the last 8 years of arrogance and avarice.
I found this book both evocative, and though-provoking. It is a great "backstage" look at President Obama's candidacy, and reveals much about his character, determination, and his ability to connect with people. I highly recommend this book to anyone, even of the opposing party. It's a great read.”
“Great chronicle of Barack Obama's seemingly improbale election at the 44th President of the United States. Richard Wolffe covered the campaign from start to finish, and that access gives him great insight into the campaign.
My only big complaint was the book was somewhat disjointed. You'd expect this book to be fairly chronological, but Wolffe tends to jump back to Iowa a lot”

After reading several books in a row about the election and 2008 presidential politics, this has turned out to be the best. More than just an account of Obama's campaign from beginning to end, Richard Wolfffe combines that narrative with the story of his early life, college years, and maturation as a person. It was a very interesting way to write a book and made it go by very fast. For someone who hasn't read any of the books Obama wrote himself, I learned quite a bit about the man. Additionally, Richard Wolffe seemed to have an incredible amount of access to the candidate throughout the entire campaign, which greatly adds to the flow and cohesiveness of the narrative.
This is a very in-depth, well-written, and substantive book. It is probably the best political book I have read about the 2008 election, and I promise I'm not just saying that because I like Obama:)”
“Wow! I couldn't put this down. While it will be years before the definitive biography of Obama will be written, this is unique for its immediacy. Adult nonfiction.”

This is detailed account of the campaign and all the surrounding events and especially Obama's reactions to the outside developments.
The book is very well written; it takes different aspects at a time (e.g. foreign policy or Obama's raicial and identity politics) and develops these around the time line of the 2 years, rather than slavishly re-counting the events of 2 years. This makes for a much more interesting read and for a coherent view of the different aspects.
Highly recommended !”
