I meant to read the Earthsea books years ago, and somehow it slipped past me. Finally having gotten around to it, I wish I'd done it before. The world of Earthsea is fascinating and rich. Le Guin is able to give just enough information about the world so that we understand and feel engaged, but she doesn't give us so much as to disconnect from our imagination or to take away the wonder of the next page. This story of Ged and his discovery of his own power and weaknesses is mythic in tone and scope and should be a staple on the shelves of any true fans of fantasty.
