I thought this book was awesome when I was in 7th grade. I reread it a couple years ago and found it to be less awesome.

This is a very good book. The description of the wizards tutelage is wonderful. The Jungian symbolism for how each of us deal with our dark side is life affirming. I like the importance that this book gives to names.

What a fun read. I caught the SciFi channel movie based on Earthsea and of course the book was so much richer and detailed. Wonderful journey.

I'm glad you liked the stories so much better than I did. I enjoyed them, but not that much.

There is so much more to this series than what you've mentioned here. Please take another look! These were written long before any of this was "typical" and Ged is much more complex than a "loner". The adolescent struggle with maturity, facing and taking responsibility for ones dark side, the use of language to gain mastery of the world and the consequences of power are all important themes that Le Guin handles expertly. The world of modern fantasy literature owes much to Ursula K. Le Guin.

yes! The second is pretty slow at times but worth it and definitely worth the set up for the 3rd in which a lot of big things happen! The SciFi channel movie covered the 1st 2 books and was pretty good for a made-for-tv movie.

Although all my friends hated this book, I enjoyed this book very much. I haven't had the time though to exactly read anymove of the serious. Are they any good?
