“I'm generally pretty lax on my standards for fiction. I finished this and thought: "What a stupid book."
Then, realizing that it was all there was to say about it, I felt compelled to say it aloud: "What a stupid book."
A rambling, disconnected political soapbox disguised as a young-adult's novel. Abrubt ending, implausible from cover to cover. Waste of time. Don't bother.”
“TheLibrarian 4 out 5 stars I didn't realize when I picked up CHANGING PLANES that it was a delightful play on words. This book is a collection of short stories where people waiting in airports - suffering through all the indignities and inconveniences of travel - can transport themselves to a different "plane" of existence. Le Guin is a clever writer, and this book becomes a fantasy travelogue. The author speculates how things would be different if certain aspects that make us human were different. There are lighter topics such as the possibility of growing wings, or migrating seasonally like birds, to more serious that involve genocide and ethnic intolerance. I very much enjoyed the continuity in short story format. ”

This short story collection was good, but not my favorite. The premise that while waiting for planes(air) you could visit other planes (planets) was excellent. I really enjoyed several stories. However, the concept eventually overwhelmed me and I just wanted to finish.
This will not stop me from reading another Le Guin book. She is an excellent writer.”
“The most recent book I've read, a truly enjoyable experience! A great book to read while on a 15 or 30minute lunch break at work, or when you just want to read a little before bed. Made up of several short stores (all about the same theme of visiting different planes, or realties, planets)”

Each chapter examines the inhabitants of a different plane (world), as seen through the eyes of an interplanary traveller from Earth. Some may be already familiar having appeared as short stories in other SciFi publications previously, while others may be reminiscent of some aspects of our own history. ”
